Carbon footprint
Our double-skinned stainless steel bottles weigh 300grams. We have used the International Stainless Steel Forum figures to calculate the CO2 cost of an individual bottle, and we have also calculated the carbon cost of shipping the bottles to the UK. From total figure we make contributions to the myclimate.org carbon offsetting scheme to ensure that our bottles reach you as a zero carbon product.
Every time you use your ocean tattoo bottle instead of buying a disposable plastic bottle you preventing 80 grams of CO2 equivalent (greenhouse gases) being released into the atmosphere. We can all feel good about that!
Plastics
We want you to know exactly what we are selling you. We print our products in the UK using the sublimation process. For our bottles and mugs this means there is a thin and tough polyurethane coating on the outside surface, to which the printing inks are bonded. Our t-shirts are a cotton / polyester mix. Sublimation printing means that the ink doesn’t sit on the surface of a material; it becomes part of the material, giving long-lasting and vibrant colours.
Given that you will be using your ocean tattoo bottle many hundreds of times over many years we feel this is a worthy compromise: great designs with brilliant colours that last. For our t-shirts we recommend that you do what we do and wash them in a mesh laundry bag. This catches any manmade microfibres and prevents them from entering the water supply.
Plastic is not evil, but single-use plastics are a global menace, polluting our environment and killing millions of seabirds and marine creatures. Around the world humans buy 1 million plastic bottles a minute. That’s half a trillion plastic bottles in 2020 alone. Tens of millions of these plastic drink bottles end up in the sea and oceans every year. And, of course, plastic pollution is also threatening biodiversity on land.
